 Term 5 Curriculum

This term, our English book is Gigantosaurus by Jonny Duddle. We’ll be helping the children grow in confidence when sharing their ideas, using new vocabulary, and asking questions to help them understand the story more deeply. They’ll be practising how to explain their thinking, use words like and or because to join ideas together, and talk about events in more detail. We’ll also be encouraging them to retell the story to strengthen their understanding.

In Maths, the children will continue developing their counting skills, working with larger numbers and trying out different counting strategies. We’ll also be practising number facts and beginning to explore subitising using tools such as the Rekenrek.

In Phonics, we will continue our Little Wandle journey as the children are introduced to new digraphs (two letters that make one sound). We are incredibly proud of the fantastic progress they’ve made—many are now reading more fluently and with growing confidence. Children read each book three times at school before it comes home on Fridays. Please return books on Wednesdays, and do take a few minutes to listen to your child read—you’ll be amazed at how far they’ve come!

We are also excited for our school trip on Tuesday 28th April to the Singleton Environment Centre.

Home Learning

Please try to read every day and write in the reading record diary. Your child has a 'Treasure Book' that you can share together (your child is not expected to be able to read this alone) and a reading book which they have read three times at school, the aim is they should be reading this book fluently by the time they return it to school on a Wednesday.
