Communication and Interaction (Speech, Language and Communication Needs)

Speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) is the term given to describe the extensive range of needs related to all aspects of communication – from understanding others to forming sounds, words and sentences to expressing ideas and emotions and using language socially. Some children may have difficulty in only one of these areas, but others may have difficulties in more than one.  Please click on the links below for further information about identifying, supporting and referring children for SLCN.

The Speech Link Parent Portal website offers parents and carers advice, information and activities for developing your children’s understanding, talking and listening.

Please also click on the link below to our SLCN Specialist Resource Provision (Our SRP) page, for further examples of interventions and support that we offer at the John Wesley School.
